 4 Bar Cafe plays instrumental music composed and performed by Michael E. Scofield.  Mike’s musical roots are playing the accordion and guitar and listening, especially, to music from the classical, jazz, folk and Great American Songbook traditions.  For the past 20 years, he has focused on playing the mountain dulcimer, applying the beauty of this wood and strings instrument to all types of music, not just the bluegrass and country genres often associated with it.  In 2022 Mike decided that instead of playing others’ music he would try his hand at composing.  The result is a 4 Bar Cafe repertoire of relaxing melodies that evoke a range of emotions, from happy and light-hearted to contemplative and somber.  The early tracks feature Mike playing the mountain dulcimer along with acoustic guitar, pennywhistle, ukulele, cigar box guitar, percussion and a variety of virtual instruments.  More recently, Mike has been composing and recording brief pieces of chamber music with an emphasis on strings, woodwinds and horns.
